La AEMPS ha publicado la siguiente nota sobre la conservación de medicamentos durante el verano:
La adecuada conservación de medicamentos en verano es crucial para que estos mantengan sus características de calidad, seguridad y eficacia. La duración y las condiciones de conservación se establecen en función de los resultados de los ensayos de estabilidad a los que son sometidos antes de ser comercializados.
La Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios (AEMPS) recuerda la importancia de tener en cuenta estas condiciones y las enmarca en cinco sencillos consejos a seguir en caso de ola de calor:
- Leer atentamente el prospecto, donde siempre están indicadas las instrucciones de conservación de los medicamentos.
- En aquellos medicamentos que requieran condiciones especiales de temperatura de conservación, estas aparecerán especificadas en el envase. Así existen:
- Medicamentos a conservar entre +2ºC y +8ºC. Estos medicamentos deben conservarse siempre en nevera.
- Medicamentos a conservar a menos de 25ºC o a menos de 30ºC. En estos casos, aun cuando la temperatura ambiente supere esporádicamente los 40ºC, no afectará a la conservación del medicamento porque:
- Las temperaturas superiores a 40ºC en España ocurren de manera puntual y no constante durante todo el día.
- Los lugares sugeridos para el almacenamiento de los medicamentos en el domicilio suelen ser sitios frescos y secos, por lo que la temperatura que se alcanza sería menor.
- Algunas formas farmacéuticas (cremas, óvulos, supositorios,…) son más sensibles a las elevaciones de temperatura. En estos casos, si al abrirlas su aspecto se ha modificado, no deben utilizarse.
- Si se realizan viajes, es desaconsejable mantener los medicamentos en maleteros o habitáculos de los coches a pleno sol porque se pueden alcanzar temperaturas muy elevadas.
- Muchos medicamentos no requieren de condiciones especiales de temperatura de conservación, pudiendo mantenerse a temperatura ambiente. Estos medicamentos han demostrado que no se degradan cuando son expuestos a temperaturas de 40ºC durante seis meses.
