BEXSERO®: LA VACUNA FRENTE AL MENINGOCOCO B QUE SE HACE DE ROGAR
¿Para qué sirve el BEXSERO®?
Es una vacuna frente a la meningitis B, infección bacteriana producida por el meningococo B.
¿Qué es la meningitis?
Es una inflamación del tejido que recubre el cerebro y la médula espinal.
¿Es grave?
Si.
¿Cuál es la incidencia de la meningitis?
Es muy baja, en concreto se dan unos 0,3 casos por cada 100.000 habitantes al año (datos de 2014).
Actualmente no tenemos ningún brote ni epidemia activa de esta enfermedad.
Dosis e intervalos entre dosis
A continuación mostramos una tabla con las dosis e intervalos entre ellas en función de la edad del paciente.

a La primera dosis debe administrarse a los 2 meses de edad. La seguridad y eficacia de Bexsero en lactantes de menos de 8 semanas no se ha establecido. No se dispone de datos.
b En caso de retraso en la administración, la dosis de recuerdo no debe administrarse más tarde de los 24 meses.
c Ver sección 5.1 de ficha técnica. La necesidad y el plazo de otras dosis de recuerdo no han sido determinados.

La falta de vacunas ha creado cierta preocupación en algunos padres que han vacunado a sus hijos con la primera dosis y ahora son incapaces de conseguir el resto. En este sentido debemos tranquilizarles ante la posibilidad de tener que aumentar el intervalo entre dosis, ya que la incidencia de la enfermedad es muy baja y a día de hoy no tenemos ningún brote ni epidemia. Aunque lo recomendable es que se administren las dosis en los intervalos indicados, si por alguna circunstancia no es posible, no se pierde eficacia aunque si se tarda más en obtener la protección completa. No obstante, cuando se decida vacunar, se recomienda poner la primera dosis cuanto antes aunque no se tenga el resto, ya que esa primera vacuna ya aporta cierto grado de protección.
¿Podemos conseguir la vacuna?
Los laboratorios GSK han comunicado en enero de 2017 nuevos problemas en la producción de las vacunas BEXERO® lo cual aumentará más aún el retraso en su abastecimiento a las farmacias.
No obstante señalan que esto no supone ningún problema de calidad ni seguridad en las dosis de BEXSERO® ya disponibles en el mercado.
Por ello conseguir hoy una vacuna es difícil.
